Friday evening was a successful affair for those FC Bayern pros on national team duty. Poland's Robert Lewandowski and Austria's David Alaba won their matches 1-0, both Bayern players captaining their sides.
The Munich striker played a crucial role in Poland's match-winner against North Macedonia, but it was Krzysztof Piatek who had the ball in the back of the net shortly after the restart. Poland top Group G after winning all of their first three matches. Alaba turned in a strong display and led his team to a crucial victory over Slovenia in the same group. Austria took their first points in the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign. Alaba's fine through-ball led to the match-winner scored by Schalke's Guido Burgstaller midway through the second half. "It gives us momentum, we must keep going like this. It was a crucial step," Alaba commented after the match.
The two Bayern pros will be back in action on Monday 10 June at 20.45 CEST, when Poland take on Israel, who are lying second on seven points, in Warsaw. At the same time Austria travel to face North Macedonia in Skopje, and they will be looking to add to their tally.
