Wooyeong Jeong has joined SC Freiburg from FC Bayern Munich for an undisclosed fee. The 19-year-old South Korean has signed a long-term contract with the Bundesliga club.
“Woo came to us with the desire to take the next step in his career at Freiburg. He’s progressed exceptionally in a sporting and personal sense during his 18 months with us. We wish him all the best and will keep a close eye on his development,” said Jochen Sauer, head of the FC Bayern Campus.
Jeong came to Munich in January 2018 and began playing for the U19s. An ankle injury originally prevented him from settling in on the pitch, but last season he became a regular in the reserve team that achieved promotion to the third division (13 goals in 29 games). He also made his first senior appearances in the Bundesliga and Champions League, featuring in 5-1 wins over Borussia Mönchengladbach and Benfica respectively. He now wants to play regular top-class football in Freiburg.
“I had a great time at FC Bayern and would like to thank everyone at the FC Bayern Campus for helping me over the past year and a half and making it so easy to settle into like in Germany. I’m now looking forward to a new challenge in the Bundesliga with SC Freiburg,” Jeong added.
