It's official! Today, 1 July, - Lucas Hernández's time at FC Bayern starts. In March, the French world champion signed a contract through to 2024 with the German record champions, which comes into force with the start of the 2019/20 season. "It makes me proud to represent this club and to play with it in all competitions," explained the 23-year-old, who will be officially introduced next week at the start of pre-season training.
However, the defensive specialist has been in Munich for quite some time and following a knee operation in spring has been working hard on his comeback under the supervision of FC Bayern's medical department. "At the moment I'm continuously training", said the double winners' new number 21, (shirt available here) adding "I hope to be one hundred percent fit at the start of the season. I'm taking it step by step and improving every day."
Hernández will soon be increasing the intensity of his training so that, along with his teammates he can lay the foundation in pre-season training for a successful first season at FC Bayern. Looking ahead, the world champion remarked: "I hope the next year will be a really big one, with lots of trophies. That's the most important thing in football."
