Bayern set for final stage of pre-season
Bayern are entering the last leg of their pre-season preparations. After around three weeks at their Säbener Straße home as well as the 10-day Audi Summer Tour in the USA, the German record champions will be at their training camp in Tegernsee from Tuesday. Over the next five days, coach Niko Kovac will be looking to put the finishing touches to his team ahead of the DFB Cup first round match at Energie Cottbus on 12 August and then the Bundesliga opener against Hertha BSC just four days later.
The Reds return to Rottach-Egern, where they also laid the foundations for the previous season, which ended with the double. However, the circumstances are different this summer compared to a year ago, when Kovac’s squad was divided into several groups because of the World Cup. Apart from new signing Lucas Hernández, who will be gradually integrated into full training in the Bavarian Alps following his knee operation, the whole squad is at a comparable level in their training.
Four members of the reserve team – Lars Lukas Mai, Paul Will, Sarpreet Singh and Kwasi Okyere Wriedt – will also travel to Tegernsee, taking the total group to 21 outfield players and three goalkeepers. Along with two open and two closed training sessions, Bayern will also play a training game against local side FC Rottach-Egern (Thursday 18:30 CEST). They’ll then head back to Munich on Saturday lunchtime to get ready for the cup game in Cottbus.
