Bayern Munich have been drawn into Group B alongside Tottenham Hotspur, Olympiacos and Red Star Belgrade in the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League group stage, which begins on 17/18 September ahead of the final in Istanbul on 20 May 2020. The draw was made at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on Thursday evening, and conducted by former Champions League winners Wesley Sneijder and Petr Cech. As German champions, Bayern were in Pot 1.
Last season's finalists Tottenham Hotspur joined Bayern from Pot 2. The two sides have crossed swords in four European matches so far, Bayern winning two and losing one match, with one game ending in a draw. However, all of the encounters are more than 30 years old. FCB last met Tottenham in the Audi Cup final, where they lost on penalties.
Greek runners-up Olympiacos, who qualified via the play-offs, joined the group from Pot 3. The German record champions boast an outstanding record against the team from Athens. Bayern have won all of their four European matches against Olympiacos. Their last two encounters dates back to 2015/16, when Bayern won 3-0 and 4-0 in the group stage.
Bayern will also encounter Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade from Pot 4. The record against Red Star is evenly balanced, Bayern winning two and losing the same number of matches, with one game ending in a draw. The last encounter dates back to 2007/08, Bayern winning 3-2 away in Belgrade.
Istanbul's Atatürk Olympic Stadium will be the venue of the Champions League final for the second time after 2005, former FC Bayern pro Hamit Altintop being the ambassador.
