Thiago and Goretzka resume squad programme

Niko Kovač can in all probability count on his midfield maestro in Saturday's home match against FSV Mainz. "Thiago took part in team training, he's feeling much better. We're very confident," the Bayern coach said at Thursday's press conference at the Säbener Strasse. The Spaniard was out of action after sustaining a cervical spine problem last week.

There was more good news as Leon Goretzka, who missed the first two matches, resumed the squad programme. Besides, the 24-year-old has been called up for Germany's upcoming EURO qualifiers. "I talked to Joachim Löw, we've agreed Leon can join the Germany squad," declared Kovač.

Philippe Coutinho will feature in the matchday squad and is set to make his maiden appearance at the Allianz Arena against Mainz. "Philippe is making progress as expected. We're very satisfied," said Kovač, who left open whether the Brazilian would feature from the start: "Our goal is to get him fit as soon as possible. He played a few minutes against Schalke, and we want to build on that." Fiete Arp will miss the match due to illness.
