Kovac: We lacked the bit of luck you need

FC Bayern fought and equalised after going a goal down but were ultimately unable to reward themselves with three points. The Bavarians were held to a 2-2 draw by Hertha Berlin despite a number of big chances in Friday's Bundesliga restart. "We lacked the bit of luck you need," said Niko Kovac. But taken altogether Bayern made a positive impression. "We turned in a really good display," commented sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

Reaction to Bayern v Hertha

Niko Kovac: "Hertha were a bit lucky to share the spoils, but they defended well. We had a lot of chances, we failed to take many clear-cut chances. We could have finished a few moves better even before Hertha switched their formation. But I can't blame my team. They tried everything, they gave it everything. It was one-way traffic, we were dominant. But we lacked the bit of luck you need. A compliment to Hertha for bearing up against it. We must make sure we soon collect the two points we failed to take today."

Hasan Salihamidzic: "Apart from the quarter-hour before the break we turned in a good performance. Of course we should have taken our chances. We had so many opportunities, we turned in a really good display and dominated possession. We were unlucky to concede the two goals. Hertha were in front of goal two or three times. But games like this happen in football. I'm still confident because our performance was really good, it whets our appetite. We should have scored three goals before Berlin's equaliser, but then we conceded the goal and the match took a different course."

Robert Lewandowski: "Our performance wasn't bad. We had good pace and created a lot of chances, but then Hertha scored. It was completely out of the blue. It's a shame we didn't take our chances. We turned in a good display but only took one point."

Ante Covic (Hertha Berlin coach): "When you play away to Munich you know from the start you can't dominate the match as you'd like to. You must still believe you can have some good moments to take something away from here. Not many people bet on us when we conceded the opener. We're satisfied with the 2-2 draw, we knew we had to survive some critical moments. It was a defensive battle for 35 minutes."

Niklas Stark (Hertha Berlin): "They pressed us into our own half in the second half. It might have been problematic for us if we had played for 20 more minutes. We turned in a good team display and pushed to our limits."
