Kovac: We turned in a really good display

FC Bayern got off to a fantastic start in the top clash away to RB Leipzig, scoring an early goal and dominating the first half. "We played sensationally in the first half, it was our best performance so far," said coach Niko Kovač. Leipzig levelled the scores from the penalty spot shortly before half-time. It was an "open contest" after the restart, but at the end of the day Bayern and RB shared the spoils. "We're looking at the bright side of the game: we turned in a really good display," commented Kovač.

Reaction to Leipzig v Bayern

Niko Kovač: "We played sensationally in the first half, it was our best performance so far. We didn't allow them anything but should have made more of our dominance. We made life difficult for ourselves after that. We shouldn't have conceded the penalty after losing the ball. Leipzig changed their formation at half-time, we should have been more compact in midfield. It was an open contest then. At the end of the day the result is annoying. We had more chances, we played well but unfortunately squandered two points. We're looking at the bright side of the game: we turned in a really good display."

Manuel Neuer: "We should have extended our lead in the first half, we should have closed it out or at least paved the way. The equaliser knocked us out of our stride a bit because we'd been so dominant. We didn't play so well after half-time, we didn't show our true colours then. We lacked this naturalness in our play, we weren't so confident any more. We must build on the good aspects and examine the bad ones."

Julian Nagelsmann, RB Leipzig coach: "We didn't really have a grip in the first half, Bayern enjoyed much more time on the ball. Things went better in after the break, we had more possession and some chances. At the end of the day the draw may be a bit lucky but not necessarily undeserved."

Emil Forsberg, RB Leipzig: "It's not easy when you concede a goal against Bayern after three minutes. We didn't play well in the first 45 minutes, we weren't in control, we didn't have power and had to run a lot. We upped the pressure in the second half, we got a grip and were bolder. And we created chances."
