Spain and Thiago are on course for the Euro 2020 after beating the Faroe Islands 4-0 on Sunday evening. The 23,644 crowd in Gijón saw Rodrigo Moreno put Spain ahead early in the first half and double the lead after half-time. Sub Paco Alcacer netted twice in the closing stages. The three-time European champions lead Group F on the maximum 18 points, ahead of Sweden on 11 and Romania on ten points.

Three days after the 2-1 victory over Romania, where he failed to get off the bench, Thiago made the starting line-up against the Faroe Islands and was the pivot in Spain's game from the off. The 28-year-old was involved in nearly every promising attack, including Moreno's early opener. Thiago later set up Spain's third goal, inviting Dortmund pro Alcacer to slot home.
