Birthday boy Kovač welcomes Alaba and Goretzka back

Happy Birthday, coach! Niko Kovač and his men resumed training in glorious sunshine on Tuesday morning. Apart from the players who remained in Munich during the international break, Kovač welcomed some returnees back on his 48th birthday.

Besides Michaël Cuisance, who was in action for the France U-20s, David Alaba returned to the Säbener Strasse. The 27-year-old was ruled out of Austria's Euro qualifiers against Israel and Slovenia after sustaining a hairline fracture of the rib, but he completed large parts of the squad programme on Tuesday.

Three returnees

Leon Goretzka too joined the team. After sustaining a thigh injury, the 24-year-old made a lot of progress in rehab and took up team training on Tuesday.

More FCB internationals will join the squad on Wednesday, so Kovač and his men can fully kick off preparations for Saturday's Bundesliga match away to FC Augsburg. Only Thiago and Alphonso Davies will be in action for Spain and for Canada on Tuesday evening and night. The two will have some more time to regenerate after their matches.
