With the Bayern trio of Corentin Tolisso, Benjamin Pavard and Kingsley Coman, World Cup winners France have taken an important step towards qualifying for the European Championships. Les Bleus beat Iceland 1-0 and now lead Group H on 18 points ahead of Turkey, also on 18 points, and Iceland (12). Bayern pro Lucas Hernández was also in the France squad in Reykjavík but did not feature in the match.

In a game with few highlights -- Coman (42') had one of the best chances with a shot into the side netting -- a penalty for Didier Dechamp's team gave France the lead soon after the hour mark. Olivier Giroud (66') converted the spot-kick to beat Hannes Thor Halldorsson in goal for Iceland and make it 1-0. France then had more of the game and created some good chances to increase their lead. The best was missed by Blaise Matuidi (78') who hit the post after some good work by Coman.
