Gnabry shines but Germany only draw 2-2 with Argentina

One goal scored and another provided: In spite of an impressive performance by Serge Gnabry and a 2-0 lead, Germany were only able to draw 2-2 on Wednesday night in the encounter with Argentina. Gnabry started the game alongside Bayern pros Niklas Süle and Joshua Kimmich – the latter lead Germany out onto the pitch as captain in the game against the South American side as Joachim Löw had previously decided to play Marc André ter Stegen in goal in place of the regular first choice for Germany Manuel Neuer.

Tenth goal in eleven games for Gnabry

Gnabry scored his tenth goal in eleven internationals to give Germany the lead on 60 minutes at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund: After some good work by Lukas Klostermann, the 24-year-old beat three Argentinian players before slotting the ball into the net to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, the Bayern striker set up the second goal for Germany scored by Kai Havertz (22’) with a great pass from the right wing.

Marcel Halstenberg (31’) and Argentina's Rodrigo de Paul (33’) were both denied by the woodwork and Gnabry missed out on a second goal on 44 minutes following a quickly taken Kimmich free kick. After the restart, the former FCB player Emre Can (55') had the chance to increase the lead for the hosts but instead the opposition scored when Leverkusen striker Lucas Alario came on and found the back of the net (66'). The South Americans continued to press and Lucas Ocampos levelled the scores on 85 minutes.
