Three Bayern pros were on national team duty in Euro 2020 qualifying on Thursday evening, and all three had reason to celebrate. fcbayern.com summarises the games.
Lewy on fire
Robert Lewandowski continued his incredible goal streak in the national team too, almost single-handedly firing Poland to a 3-0 victory over Latvia. The Bayern forward netted twice in the early stages before rounding off his hat-trick with a quarter-hour to go. The victory over the bottom club means Poland are on course for the Euro 2020, topping Group G.
Croatia and Perišić beat Hungary
Ivan Perišić too bagged three crucial points. The 30-year-old and his Croatian compatriots beat Hungary in his home town Split, tightening their grip on top spot in Group E. Luca Modrić opened the scoring early in the game, Bruno Petković doubling Croatia's lead midway through the first half. Perišić set up Petković' second goal shortly before half-time. Leipzig keeper Péter Gulácsi saved a Perišić penalty after the restart. Hungary's László Kleinheisler was sent off for a second bookable offence before Perišić was subbed off on the hour.
Alaba out of action against Israel
David Alaba was an onlooker in Austria's 3-1 victory over Israel. The 27-year-old joined his national team with a hairline fracture of the rib sustained in Bayern's 7-2 victory over Tottenham. The Euro qualifier came too early for the left-back, but Alaba was at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion to support his team. Eran Zahavy put Israel in front after the half-hour, Valentino Lazaro levelling the scores before half-time. Martin Hinteregger scored after the restart, Marcel Sabitzer closing out the meeting. Austria now lie second in Group G behind Lewandowski's Poland.
