Football in 2019 is entering its final phase. After the last international break before Christmas, FC Bayern started the build-up to Saturday’s Bundesliga game at Fortuna Düsseldorf on Thursday. And the good news is: All the players away on international duty have returned to Munich safe and sound and taken part in this morning’s training session at Säbener Straße.
In temperatures just above freezing, coach Hansi Flick welcomed 24 players to the training ground including three goalkeepers, 17 outfield players plus Leon Dajaku, Joshua Zirkzee, Oliver Batista-Meier and Sarpreet Singh from the Reserves. The only absentees were the injured Niklas Süle (cruciate) and Lucas Hernández (torn ligament) who completed rehab sessions at the performance centre.
Flick only has time for two training sessions to prepare his squad for the start of the run-in with eight games in the next 30 days. The match at Fortuna Düsseldorf is followed by the next fixture in the group stage of the Champions League away to Red Star Belgrade and then two top games in the Bundesliga against Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
