Lewandowski surpasses Gerd Müller

What an outstanding number! Robert Lewandowski surpassed a record set by Bayern legend Gerd Müller more than 50 years ago. The 31-year-old bagged a brace in Saturday's 4-0 home victory over Borussia Dortmund, scoring goals number 15 and 16 on Matchday 11. Lewandowski surpassed Gerd Müller's best mark set in the 1968/69 Bundesliga campaign. Der Bomber had scored 15 goals in the first 11 league matches of the 1968/69 double season.

Lewandowski has scored 23 goals in 18 competitive matches so far this season. The Poland captain is the first player in the Bundesliga's history to score on 11 consecutive matchdays. The striker extended another streak on Saturday. He has scored an imposing 16 goals in 11 Bundesliga matches against his former club Borussia Dortmund.
