What a debut for Hansi Flick: FC Bayern booked a berth in the Champions League last sixteen in the 54-year-old's first match as FC Bayern head coach. "I enjoyed it because the team displayed the quality they have. We can be very satisfied with the match. We can be pleased with everyone's performance," Flick commented on his debut. Bayern were utterly dominant in Wednesday's 2-0 victory over Olympiacos and created a lot of chances and were finally rewarded late in the match. "We pushed Olympiacos where we wanted them," Manuel Neuer commented after the final whistle at the Allianz Arena.
Reaction to Bayern v Olympiacos
Hansi Flick: "I enjoyed it because the team displayed the quality they have. We can be very satisfied with the match. We can be pleased with everyone's performance. The team did a good job and earned their reward. We allowed them few chances, our positioning was good. After the last few matches it was about defending high and taking the initiative. Taken altogether the team performed well. We put our opponents under pressure again and again. Olympiacos were very compact in defence. We made too many wrong decisions in the first half because it was very tight in front of goal. We did better after the break and rewarded ourselves. Now it's about recovering quickly, working on routines and preparing ideally for Saturday."
Manuel Neuer: "We turned in a good performance, imposed our game for the full 90 minutes and pushed Olympiacos where we wanted them. They had to work a lot, and towards the end they were tired. It was a deserved win. The main thing is always to win, but it was important to keep a clean sheet, to boost our confidence in defence. We defended from the front and put our opponents under pressure from the start. What we did in attack was good too."
Thomas Müller: "I'm upbeat because we were dominant and won the match, like we expect FC Bayern to do. We were aggressive and put into practice what we'd worked on in training. We didn't allow them air to breathe. Maybe we lacked gloss up front because of the great effort. We won possession frequently but made too little of it. But we didn't allow them any chances and won deservedly. It was important in our situation to be commanding and dominant. Now we must look ahead and prepare for Saturday."
Pedro Martins (Olympiacos coach): "Bayern stifled our play. It has to do with our opponents' quality of course. But we can do better than today. Bayern forced us into mistakes. They have a new coach and were very focused today. Our opponents' quality was too great. They hardly let us have the ball. We tried, and we turned in a decent performance even though we lost."
