Congratulations, Robert Lewandowski! FC Bayern's top goal scorer came a strong eighth at this year's Ballon d'Or, landing deservedly in the top 10. On Monday evening, the gala award ceremony to present the prestigious award took place in the "Théâtre du Châtelet" in Paris.
Lewandowski's outstanding performances have been convincing this year and he can now be happy about the good result at the Ballon d'Or. In 44 competitive games for the German record champions till now, the 31-year-old has scored an incredible 45 goals. As Poland captain, he also dazzled with six goals in ten European Championship qualifying matches. After 2017 (9th place), 2016 (16th), 2015 (4th) and 2013 (13th), this is the fifth time Lewandowski has been voted into the top 20 of the world's best football players.
Ballon d'Or – chosen by football journalists
The winners of the Ballon d'Or, which has been awarded since 1956, are chosen by international football journalists. Between 2010 and 2015, the election took place under the auspices of the FIFA World Association to replace the World Player of the Year. Since 2016, France Football has once more awarded the Golden Ball.
