Franck Ribéry gets hold of the ball on the left. FC Bayern's number 7 cuts inside, sidestepping Frankfurt's Danny da Costa and David Abraham before beating keeper Kevin Trapp with a delicate chip to score Bayern's fourth goal.
Ribéry crowned his last Bundesliga match for FC Bayern with a wonder goal in the 72nd minute. He took off his shirt, celebrating on his knees with tears in his eyes. He had just settled the fight for the championship title.
Rafinha's, Robben's and Ribéry's farewell was one of the most beautiful moments in 2019. 👇
Matchday 34 of the 2018/19 season yielded two special stories. The German record champions needed at least one point for the championship title, and Rafinha, Ribéry and Arjen Robben contested their last match at the Allianz Arena. The atmosphere was spine-tingling before a ball was kicked. The south stand had prepared an impressive choreography. Huge letters said Obrigado Rafinha, Merci Franck and Dank U Wel Arjen.
Rafinha did not play, but Robben and Ribéry came on and demonstrated their qualities once again after 10 and 12 years at FC Bayern. The French winger scored a textbook goal, and Robben topped it off.
A fine David Alaba pass invited the Dutchman to tap in, and he was in raptures, similar to the magical night at Wembley. He scored his 99th goal in his 201st Bundesliga match. Robben almost rounded off a century, but Trapp saved his effort.
But the fans will always remember this day: the first championship title at the Allianz Arena, sumptuous goals and the farewell to three crowd-pleasers, a textbook day.
