FC Bayern Legends take on Leeds United on 28 March

A mouth-watering highlight: the FC Bayern Legends take on a Leeds United Select XI on Saturday 28 March. 45 years after the European Champions' Cup final in Paris in 1975, the two sides reconvene at Elland Road at 15.00 local time. Franz 'Bulle' Roth and Gerd Müller scored in Bayern's 2-0 victory, sealing the second European Champions' Cup title in the club's history.

Charitable cause

The two clubs will celebrate a reunion in a friendly atmosphere and for a good cause. Both teams will donate the proceeds of the game to the Leeds United Foundation.

"The 1975 European Cup final was without a doubt a memorable match for both clubs," says Giovane Élber, representing the FCB Legends: "I'm very glad our Legends will travel to Leeds for this reunion. And the timing is perfect: Leeds United turned 100 last year, whereas FC Bayern celebrate their 120th birthday on 27 February."

Élber, Lúcio, Demichelis & Co. to feature for Bayern

Besides former Bayern striker and Champions League winner Élber, many other former stars have confirmed their participation, including Brazilian world champions Lúcio and Paulo Sérgio, World Cup runners-Up Martín Demichelis (Argentina) and Zé Roberto (Brazil) as well as Champions League winner Carsten Jancker. In addition, Jörg Butt, Marcel Witeczek, Markus Schupp, Michael Sternkopf, Michael Tarnat, Zvjezdan Misimović and Carsten Lakies will be in the Munich squad. Longstanding Bayern captain and world champion Klaus Augenthaler will supervise the Bayern side.

The Leeds team will include the likes of Jermaine Beckford, Luciano Becchio, Olivier Dacourt und Lee Bowyer. The three-time English champions and two-time European Cup finalists will be supervised by 1992 championship-winning coach Howard Wilkinson and former Ireland international David O'Leary.

Sepp Maier: A great idea

Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller, Franz Roth, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Uli Hoeneß & Co. featured for Bayern in 1975, coached by Dettmar Cramer, who passed away in 2015. They will not take the field in March but are enthusiastic about the reunion. Sepp Maier, who kept a clean sheet in the 1975 final in Paris, says: "I think it's a great idea there'll be a friendly between the legends of both teams in Leeds in March, 45 years after the final and to mark both anniversaries."
