Salihamidžić: Full commitment from the first minute

Speed, dedication and a great will to win: these traits characterised Hasan Salihamidžić as a player. He conquered the fans' hearts and won numerous titles. In his nine years at the German record champions, he won the Champions League, the Intercontinental Cup, six German championship titles and four DFB Cups.

His display on 7 March 2007 was a prime example. Salihamidžić hit the gas from the off and helped Bayern make Champions League history.

Bayern's lightning start

The Spanish visitors had played three passes in the Round of 16 second leg between Bayern and Real Madrid when today's sporting director sprinted forward at full speed, nicking the ball off Roberto Carlos' toes. He passed to Roy Makaay, and 10.12 seconds had been played when the ball was in the back of the net. The Dutchman boasts the fastest goal in the history of Europe's premier club competition to this day.

'Brazzo through on the right, square ball, bang, in the net'

"Brazzo through on the right, square ball, bang, in the net," Thomas Müller commented on the lightning start he had watched as an adolescent. The goal marked the start of a true thriller. Lucio doubled Bayern's advantage in the second half, but a doubtful penalty converted by Ruud van Nistelrooy brought the game back to life. Mark van Bommel and Madrid's Mahamadou Diarra both received their marching orders for two yellow cards. FCB won 2-1 to go through to the quarter-finals on the away goals rule.
