Hansi Flick ahead of special game against FC Köln

When FC Bayern visit FC Köln on Sunday, it will be a special fixture for coach Hansi Flick. The former midfielder appeared for both clubs during his playing career.

After his move from Oberliga club SV Sandhausen to FC Bayern in the summer of 1985, Flick went on to make 139 appearances for the German record champions. Along the way he scored seven goals and won the German league title four times and the DFB Cup once. In three seasons at FC Köln, Flick played 54 games and scored three goals as he again reached the DFB Cup final in 1991. However, due to suspension, he did not play in the 4-3 defeat on penalties against Werder Bremen. After a number of injuries, Flick ended his playing career at the age of 28.

Now he returns to FC Köln for the first time in the Bundesliga – as coach of FC Bayern. The 54-year-old is sure to meet up with some old friends. During his playing career, he was in the same team at the Cologne club as their current sporting director Horst Heldt.
