Flick: It's about going through

FC Bayern beat TSG Hoffenheim 4-3 on Wednesday night, advancing to the DFB Cup quarter-finals. Munich turned in a strong first-half display and ran up a three-goal lead but eased off in the closing stages. "We stopped imposing our play," said David Alaba. Hoffenheim came close, but Bayern ultimately saw it through.  "In the cup it's ultimately about going through, so taken altogether we can be satisfied," said FCB coach Hansi Flick.

Reaction to Bayern v Hoffenheim

Hansi Flick: "In the cup it's ultimately about going through. I was very pleased with the first half. We went a goal down early but bounced back quickly and hardly let our opponents play. The way we played in the second half wasn't so good, you saw from the 55th minute the team eased off a bit. We lacked the intensity we need in our play. We didn't press well any longer. Hoffenheim made better use of their qualities, whereas we allowed them too many chances. A compliment to Hoffenheim, they did a really good job. Taken altogether we've achieved our goal. We'll work on and talk about everything else."

Serge Gnabry: "We're proud we're in the next round, but we know we should have done better. It's a lot of fun for everyone up front, we create a lot of chances and score. In the second half we lost possession too easily and lacked focus. We eased off, so Hoffenheim came close again."

David Alaba: "We stopped imposing our play in the second half, Hoffenheim had the quality to make it exciting again. It'll surely be an intense and exciting match against Leipzig on Sunday."

Alfred Schreuder, TSG Hoffenheim coach: "Congratulations to FC Bayern and Hansi Flick, they're deservedly through. We weren't bold enough after taking the lead. Bayern were very strong in the first half. We showed our potential in the second half. I'm satisfied with our performance in the second half but not with the result."

Sebastian Rudy, TSG Hoffenheim: "We turned in a good display in the second half, we had good chances. We could have scored our third goal earlier. This way we only had three minutes, unfortunately it wasn't enough. Our first half wasn't good, a lot was missing. That's why we lost the match."
