It was one of those magical Champions League nights. In the first leg of last 16, FC Bayern overpowered Chelsea in every department on Tuesday. The German record champions overcame the Londoners 3-0 at Stamford Bridge. "Congratulations to the team, that was great. We've taken a huge step towards the quarter-finals. We have to go and complete the tie in Munich. I'm convinced that the team will be successful," said CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge afterwards at the traditional post-match banquet.

The 64-year-old also emphasised Bayern's impressive record in the English capital. "One gets the impression that London is a city that likes FC Bayern: in 2013 we won the Champions League here, a few months ago we beat Tottenham 7-2 and now today we've had our next major success."

At the same time, however, the men from Munich are already looking forward to tasks ahead. "Now we have some important weeks ahead of us, some decisive games. We must keep our desire and concentration high in order to achieve our goals this season," said Rummenigge, addressing the team directly: "You have great character, we saw that again today. That character will take you far if you continue like this."
