The defence is solid as a rock. FC Bayern have not conceded in four games. One player responsible for the incredible stability of the German record champions is Benjamin Pavard. The 23-year-old Frenchman has had the third-highest number of minutes on the pitch for FCB across all competitions after captain Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich. With his focussed and level-headed approach, he has played a big part in the outstanding balance between defence and attack at FCB.
The 2018 World Cup winner occasionally played in central defence at the start of the season. As in the previous meeting with the next Bundesliga opponents Union Berlin. Pavard opened the scoring for Bayern on 13 minutes. After the Union keeper Rafal Gikiewicz turned away a cross from Joshua Kimmich, Pavard fired the ball into the back of the net with an impressive bouncing shot to make it 1-0. He is now the regular first choice at right-back. Pavard, together with his teammates, will be looking to extend the current outstanding record (14 wins in the last 15 games) on Saturday. We took a closer look at our number five in training ahead of the clash in Berlin.
