‘FC Bayern and the whole of football have to show social responsibility’

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman and CEO of FC Bayern München AG, spoke to the German Press Agency (DPA) about coronavirus on Thursday:

On the impact:

“Nobody can seriously predict how long coronavirus will be an issue for us. The 2020 European Championship is a pan-European event. That makes the subject even more complicated and therefore needs to be handled sensitively.”

On future planning for the Champions League and Europa League:

“Next week, there’s a UEFA video conference with a range of stakeholders. That will be about reaching decisions on this season’s Champions League and Europa League campaigns and how to deal with the international break after matchday 27. I’m sure UEFA, with president Aleksander Čeferin at the top, will make a serious and responsible decision.“

On games without fans:

“FC Bayern and the whole of football have to accept social responsibility and play their part in helping to slow down the spread of coronavirus.”
