FC Bayern Munich have extended the contract of Jochen Sauer, head of the FC Bayern Campus, until 30 June 2023. Alongside Hermann Gerland, 47-year-old Sauer has been responsible for talent development at FC Bayern since 2017. With the construction of the youth academy, which was completed in 2017, FC Bayern also aspired to regain a leading role in the field of young talent in Germany. Jochen Sauer played a major role in ensuring that this was achieved in a relatively short time.
"The fact that Jochen Sauer decided to join FC Bayern in 2017 was a stroke of luck for FC Bayern, but also for Jochen," says Hasan Salihamidzic, FC Bayern sporting director. "Jochen manages the very demanding and difficult task as head of the FC Bayern Campus in an outstanding manner, both professionally and personally, every day. With him in charge, we have the great opportunity to implement our vision in the long term – the vision that FC Bayern will continue to develop players from its own youth development programme for the first team. We need this for our club culture, but also for financial reasons. I am very pleased that we are working with Jochen on a long-term basis.”
Sauer worked for RB Salzburg until 2017 and has also had spells at VfL Wolfsburg and Hertha BSC.
"I am very pleased that we are continuing our cooperation," says Jochen Sauer. "Our youth teams are all doing very well. We have a great team of coaches, and the reserve team’s promotion to the third division was an important element in reducing the competitive gap to the first team and giving talents experience in a professional league. In the next phase, we need to make it possible for our best youth players to advance to the professional squad and to receive further training there. I would like to thank Hasan for his support and his trust."
