Oliver Kahn is a legend at FC Bayern thanks to his outstanding performances between the posts. Kahn exemplified the FC Bayern club motto like no other. During the 2001 Bundesliga finale in Hamburg, the goalkeeper did not fold after conceding, but motivated his teammates to never give up. The rest is history.
Before the all-important game in Hamburg, Kahn knew about the special nature of the atmosphere, which gave him that extra bit of motivation.
After the historic last-second triumph, Kahn presented the trophy to the travelling Bayern fans in the Volksparkstadion.
On the road to Champions League glory in 2001, Kahn was knocked out by teammate Samuel Kuffour in the quarter-final second leg against Manchester United. Kuffour provided primary medical care with mouth-to-mouth ventilation. Kahn was not aware of this at the time, but did continue playing afterwards. Bayern celebrated reaching the semi-finals in the end.
In an away game at Rostock in March 2001, Kahn came up for a corner with Bayern 3-2 down in stoppage time. Inimitably he punched the ball into the goal. After a caution in the first half, Kahn was shown a second yellow card, but took it in his stride with his usual humour.
