Jamal Musiala will never forget the 88th minute in FC Bayern's 3-1 victory over SC Freiburg. The England U-17 international came on for Thomas Müller and made his Bundesliga debut. At 17 years and 115 days Musiala is Bayern's youngest Bundesliga debutant, surpassing Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg, who was 17 years and 251 days old when he made his maiden Bundesliga appearance on 13 April 2013.
From Stuttgart to Munich via London
Musiala was born in Stuttgart and lived in Fulda until the age of seven. After moving to England, he switched from Chelsea's academy to the FC Bayern Campus last summer. The attacking midfielder would actually still be eligible to play for the record champions' U-17s, but after the coronavirus pause he has mostly featured as part of the reserves squad. On 9 June, he managed to score a brace in his first match for the U-23s. In addition, he has been training regularly with the first team under Hansi Flick in recent weeks.
League debut for Richards, full debut for Singh
However, Musiala was not the only young player to experience a special day against Freiburg. New Zealander Sarpreet Singh (21) made his starting eleven debut and Chris Richards (20) also celebrated his first Bundesliga appearance. "The boys who came in have quality. They know how to play football," Müller said, praising the youngsters.
