Leon Goretzka's 50th Bundesliga appearance in FC Bayern colours could hardly have gone better. The 25-year-old was involved in two goals, playing a crucial role in Bayern's 4-2 victory over Leverkusen on Matchday 30. Bayern conceded an early goal but mounted a comeback, Goretzka setting up one and scoring another goal.
New personal best
The Germany international showed how crucial he is in both defence and attack when he won the ball in Bayern's half in the 27th minute. His perfect through-ball split the defence and invited the charging Kingsley Coman to level the scores.
Strong finish
Shortly before the break the midfielder shone again. After a corner from the hosts, FCB seized the ball and went straight on the attack. Thomas Müller played in Goretzka who, after a few strides goalward, finished from 20 yards. Lukáš Hrádecký was able to get his fingertips to it but wasn't able to keep out the low shot. "In that situation I could have perhaps even played in Serge or Lewy earlier. There was some pressure on me as to where I would place my shot, otherwise I'd have been in trouble with our forwards - so it's much better that it all worked out," the goalscorer said after the game.
Sensational accuracy as key
Goretzka underlined his performance against the Werkself not only with his two goal contributions, the all-rounder performed well across the board. 27 of his 28 passes found a teammate. He was subbed off after 74 minutes to save energy for the DFB cup match on Wednesday. In the course of the double substitution involving Goretzka, another milestone man came on. Thiago celebrated his 150th Bundesliga appearance.
