One competition is still to be completed by FC Bayern in this 2019/20 season - the Champions League! On 8 August, the side from Munich will play Chelsea FC in the second leg of the last 16 in the Champions League. As UEFA announced on Thursday, this match will take place - unfortunately without spectators - in the Allianz Arena. Here, FCB will attempt to defend their 3-0 lead from the first leg and progress into the quarter-finals, to be held in Lisbon.
The timetable for a mini-tournament was drawn on Friday. From 12 August, the remaining eight teams will battle it out in Portugal's capital to reach the final (to be played on 23 August). If Bayern beat Chelsea, they will face the winners of FC Barcelona vs. Napoli SSC in the quarter-finals. Both the quarter-finals and the semi-finals will be played this year as single-leg knockout rounds at a neutral ground, not with a return leg as is otherwise always the case.
