Sané: FC Bayern was the right step for me

Leroy Sané has been a Munich man since earlier this month, and on Thursday he introduced himself to the fans and the media for the first time. In a video press conference, the new signing from Manchester City answered questions from journalists. We’ve put together the standout quotes.

Sané on his decision to join FC Bayern:

“The concept that Hasan and the whole board presented to me... That was all behind it. It gave me a really good feeling. That was crucial, along with the players. They tried to guide me here. The most annoying was Joshua Kimmich – he was phoning me every day to ask what the situation was. The move to FCB was therefore the only solution for me."

Sané on his first days in Munich:

“The early days have been very good, the people have welcomed me well. I already know some from the national team. It's all gone very well so far."

Sané on winning the Champions League with Bayern:

I was clear that if I was going to move, it had to be to a club that are capable of winning the Champions League. That's Bayern, 100 per cent.

"Generally, winning the Champions League is difficult. Bayern have managed it a few times. I was looking for something new, a new challenge. I was clear that if I was going to move, it had to be to a club that are capable of winning the Champions League. That's Bayern, 100 per cent. The team are top-class. Hansi Flick has got them playing very well, you can tell that every individual is enjoying themselves on the pitch, so it was the right step for me."

Sané on earlier contact with FC Bayern:

"We had contact back when I was playing for Schalke, but at that time with Ribéry and Robben, it would've been difficult to get games. That's why I went a different way. But now I'm looking forward to the start of the season and I'm happy I'm here."

Sané on his influence on Bayern’s play:

I want to help the team win matches more easily.

“Really, I just want to contribute to the team and bring my strengths. I want to help the team win matches more easily. I'm not the focal point. The team are very strong with a lot of top players who have already won World Cups or the Champions League."

Sané on room for improvement in his game:

"There are some areas where I can still improve. I use my left foot a lot, so I want to improve with my right. I made big strides in my positional play at City. I want to take everything up to the next level and then apply that in games.”

Sané on Hasan Salihamidžić’s concept:

“How FC Bayern want to operate, how Hansi Flick works, the targets the team have. They want to develop me and turn me into a leading player. These things will bring me to the next level, why is why I chose to come here.”
