As part of the nationwide amateur football finals day on Saturday afternoon, the fifth-tier side from North-Rhine Westphalia defeated fourth division Alemannia Aachen in the final of the Mittelrhein association cup, earning a place in the DFB Cup first round proper for next season. The regional association cup winners were previously drawn to face the men from Munich in the first round fixture on 11 September.

The golden goal for Düren in the Mittelrhein cup final was scored by Adis Omerbasić in the 20th minute. The Bosnian only left relegated third-tier outfit Chemnitzer FC to join Düren a week earlier, but made a perfect start with his new club.
