Based on four successful years of cooperation, FC Bayern Munich and the Sino-German Ecopark Qingdao announced on Saturday that they will extend the FC Bayern Football School Qingdao partnership project until 2025. In addition to the long-term extension, expanding to additional urban districts of Qingdao is a central component of the cooperation. To this end, an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed together with the Ministry of Sport and Education of the Chinese metropolis of Qingdao. In addition to high-ranking representatives of the respective parties, including FC Bayern Munich President Asia Rouven Kasper, German Ambassador to China Clemens von Götze also took part in the ceremony.

Long-term and sustainable strategy

FC Bayern Munich Board Member for Internationalisation and Strategy Jörg Wacker said: "The FC Bayern Football School Qingdao is our first football school project in China, which we launched immediately after opening our China office in Shanghai in 2016. We are delighted with the extension of this partnership as it reflects our long-term and sustainable strategy. Through our commitment, we will continue to work with the right partners to promote young talent in China".

"After the first four successful years, we are very much looking forward to the next five years together, which we want to pursue even more intensively with our partner in Qingdao," said FC Bayern Munich President Asia Rouven Kasper. "With professional coaching on site we will bring our football philosophy to Qingdao even more effectively and at even higher quality levels. Together with the Ministry of Sport and Education of the city of Qingdao, we want to develop not only our FC Bayern Football School, but also grassroots football in the schools and our work with young talents in professional football.

Sino-German United Group CEO Song Wei said: "FC Bayern is one of the most popular top clubs in the world. The extension of the contract with FC Bayern is of great importance not only for the Sino-German Ecopark but also for the development of the sport in Qingdao. In the future, we want to continue to promote young talents in the field of education and sports at FC Bayern Football School Qingdao and to develop them further through international exchange programmes, so we will be able even better to develop talents and train coaches."

Flagship for sustainable urban development

The port city of Qingdao has nine million inhabitants and is located in the province of Shandong. The Sino-German Ecopark is a pilot project between the German and Chinese governments and is considered a flagship for sustainable urban development in China. In 2016 the FC Bayern Football School Qingdao project was announced at the Chinese embassy in Berlin. In recent years, almost 1000 coaches have been instructed at the football school and numerous sporting events have been staged, such as Chinese Ministry of Education regional school football summer camps or the final of the FC Bayern Youth Cup in China. This year, during the coronavirus pandemic, digital coaching instruction was organised together with the Ministry of Education and the FC Bayern Football School Qingdao in the form of webinars. In addition to the permanent support provided by FC Bayern coaches in Qingdao and Shandong Province, future coach and player exchange programmes between Qingdao and Munich are planned.
