Joshua Kimmich somehow managed to get the ball over the line - and it was enough to seal a 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the 2020 Supercup final. After the midfielder's first attempt was beaten out by BVB keeper Marwin Hitz, he caught the rebound just in time to loop the ball into the net. Some observers might have thought it was unintentional - but it was exactly what was intended, because "I wasn't trying to miss," the winning goalscorer said with a grin a little later.
Battling warrior
It was a goal that neatly encapsulated an exceptional performance by the tireless runner and fighter in the FCB midfield. Not everything went well for the Munich team: despite a 2-0 lead after half an hour or so, the game still threatened to go the other way in the second half - and a response was urgently required. It took someone like Kimmich to force the decisive moment on the evening. No other player loosed off as many shots at goal as the 25-year-old - his fifth and most important one ensured FC Bayern's eighth Supercup triumph.

His coach Hansi Flick was impressed by the team's fighting performance: "All credit to them." Winning games as close as the one against BVB, shows "the mentality of the team on the one hand, but also a certain quality."
Thomas Müller also fought tirelessly for the victory, and was rewarded with a new milestone:
