Thomas Müller: We did the job that had to be done

Thanks to a convincing performance, FC Bayern were able to book a berth in the second round of the DFB Cup on Thursday evening. The Munich team defeated 1. FC Düren 3-0, although the fifth division team did hold their own. "Düren came up with a surprising plan and you have to give them a lot of respect for that," praised Thomas Müller. The win against Düren also saw no fewer than eight players make their competitive debuts for FCB. Among them was Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who shone with a brace for Bayern in his first appearance for the club. "I think it was a good debut. I am happy about my two goals and about my first game in a FC Bayern jersey," said the 31-year-old.

Hansi Flick: "Düren did very well and attacked bravely from the outset. It took us a bit of time to get into the game. But in the end victory was never in doubt, so I'm satisfied that we put ourselves in the hat for the next round. That was the aim. The new signings had time today to show what they can do. I'm satisfied with their first outing. Now we want to see them go step-by-step up to 100%."

Thomas Müller: "We did the job that had to be done. Düren came up with a surprising plan and you have to give them a lot of respect for that. From the first minute to the last, they did not look like a fifth division team, they attacked aggressively. It wasn't a brilliant performance by us, but it was enough."

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: “It wasn’t so easy. Düren did a good job, especially at the beginning. In the cup it’s all about winning. I think I made a good debut. I’m glad about my two goals and my first match in the FC Bayern jersey. I feel I’m a Bayern player by 100 percent even now. My fitness and performances will improve over time, I haven’t played for a while. It felt very good to be out on the pitch for an extended period. But I think I’ll have more power later. I’m working towards that in training, and I’m keen to do it.”

The opposition reaction:

Giuseppe Brunetto, 1. FC Düren head coach: “I’m so proud of my team, they turned in a good performance. The lads were bold for long spells. We conceded avoidable goals in the first half. But by and large I’m pleased with my team’s display.”

Phillipp Simon, 1. FC Düren captain: “It was a superb experience, 3-0 is a good result, we can be satisfied. We’d planned to press early and it worked well. We’re proud we were in the game.”
