Whether it’s Bixente Lizarazu, Willy Sagnol or currently Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernández – there is an extremely successful tradition at FC Bayern with French defenders. The German record champions have been able to sign another defensive player from our neighbouring country. fcbayern.com introduces the 28-year-old new arrival.
Debut at FC Metz
Sarr was born in Lyon on 31 January 1992. He started his football career at FC Gerland. The talent of the right footer prompted interest from bigger clubs early on and he joined the youth setup at Olympique Lyonnais in 2005. He moved on to FC Metz four years later. Sarr made his professional debut in the French second division on 29 July 2011 at the age of 19. However, Metz were relegated to the third tier that season.
Straight up to Ligue 1 with Metz
Sarr became a regular first choice at Metz from 2012/13 and most of the time he played on the right wing. He had two extremely successful seasons with the team from Alsace-Lorraine as they went straight up to Ligue 1. After being relegated to the second division with Metz and having made 104 appearances (eight goals) for FCM, he made the move to Olympique Marseille in July 2015.
Europa League finalist with Marseille
In his first two years at OM, Sarr, still mainly playing in the attack, was a squad player. From 2017/18, the then Marseille coach Rudi Garcia increasingly played him at right-back. Sarr knew how to impress with an attacking interpretation of his role and dangerous crosses. He then became a first-team regular and went to the final of the Europa League with Marseille in 2018, with the French team losing 3-0 against Atlético Madrid.

In last season’s coronavirus-affected campaign in France, Sarr played in 32 out of 33 games. He also played 45 minutes in a friendly against FC Bayern in July. He made a total of 188 appearances for Marseille scoring eight goals and providing 11 assists.
Bouna Sarr has a contract at FC Bayern to 2024. All the info:
