Alaba celebrates promotion - Defeat for Lewandowski

Bayern pair Robert Lewandowski and David Alaba were both in UEFA Nations League action on Wednesday night with Poland and Austria respectively – read on to find out how they fared:

Alaba and Austria promoted to League A

Following a 1-1 draw against an injury-hit Norway side, Alaba and Austria clinched top spot in Group B1 and, with it, promotion to League A. Ghayas Zahid gave the visitors the lead just after the hour mark at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna, but substitute Adrian Grbic grabbed the all-important equaliser for Austria in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Alaba played the whole match.

Lewandowski and Poland end on a loss

Robert Lewandowski came away empty-handed from Poland’s final group match in the UEFA Nations League, where he only played the first half.

Meanwhile, Lewandowski is returning to Munich after a defeat, with Poland losing 2-1 at home to Netherlands in Group A1. The home side raced into an early lead through Kamil Jozwiak but second-half goals from Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum turned the game around for the Dutch. The Bayern frontman came off at half-time. With seven points, the Poles concluded the group in third place behind Italy (12) and Netherlands (11).
