Hansi Flick: That game was unbelievably good

Fighting to the end, and celebrations after the final whistle. Bayern prevailed 3-2 winners at Borussia Dortmund in a high-octane, top quality match on Saturday. "That game was unbelievably good. There was great quality all over the pitch, both sides had great chances," said Bayern coach Hansi Flick after the final whistle. Midfielder Leon Goretzka commented: "At the end of the day it was a deserved victory because we were a step quicker and more ruthless when it counted." fcbayern.com has compiled the statements from both sets of players and coaches.

Reaction to the game against Dortmund

Hansi Flick: "The game was unbelievably good. There was great quality all over the pitch, both sides had great chances. We were a bit more determined and efficient in front of goal. The victory was more than deserved. Dortmund became dangerous when we made mistakes. We have to play more patiently, and then there won't be quite as many situations when we're vulnerable".

Manuel Neuer: "It was a well-deserved victory, especially because of the second half. We were the better team then. We had the game more and more under control. David Alaba's goal just before half-time was important. We were able to go into the interval calm. The second half was very strong."

Leon Goretzka: "Dortmund concentrated more on waiting for our mistakes. Those were too frequent and more than usual today. At the end of the day it was a deserved victory because we were a step quicker and more ruthless when it counted. All teams are showing what they can do. We kept going, were able to go full throttle for over 90 minutes. These games are twice as important as the rest."

What the opponents said:

Lucien Favre (Borussia Dortmund head coach): “Taken altogether it was a good display. We had a lot of chances, and not only in the second half. We should have taken more of them. We turned in a good performance.”

Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund): “We lacked ruthlessness in front of goal. All three goals we conceded were deflected. We can’t say we dominated the game. But I think luck wasn’t on our side today. We had many situations, big chances, we didn’t take. It was an open contest. Bayern are very strong in attack at the moment but they’re very vulnerable at the back. In these top matches there's a fine line between getting lucky and having a slice of bad luck."
