That's the way to celebrate an anniversary! Robert Lewandowski, now a record goalscorer in Der Klassiker with 24 goals (19 of them for Bayern), completed his 300th competitive game for FC Bayern in the 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund. In the process, Europe's Footballer of the Year was able to build on his incredible record. The top goalscorer scored three times on Saturday evening against his former club, but only one of his goals actually counted. On two occasions, VAR denied him goals due to wafer-thin offside calls. Nevertheless, it was a more than successful evening for Lewandowski, who now stands at no fewer than 259 goals in Bayern colours. On top of that, he set up Leroy Sané's decider.
Continuing on from last year
The second half was less than three minutes old when Lewandowski gave the Bavarians a 2-1 lead via his head. It was his 17th goal in 13 Bundesliga matches against BVB, stretching his lead in the standings of Bayern goalscorers against Dortmund. His closest rival is Gerd Müller with 14 goals. The 32-year-old seamlessly continues his magnificent 2019/20 season. After seven Bundesliga matchdays, Lewandowski has scored eleven goals once again. Only one player boasted a similar number before, Lewandowski himself last season, and in the end,he scored 34 goals, second only to Gerd Müller's wondrous 40 goal-season in 1971/72.
