DFB announces 2021/22 calendar

All eyes are currently on the top-of-the-table Bundesliga clash on Saturday between FC Bayern and RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena. The title race for the 58th Bundesliga season is still completely open. However, planning for next campaign is already underway and the German FA (DFB) announced the calendar for the 2021/22 season on Friday afternoon.

Bundesliga opener in August 2021

The 2021/22 Bundesliga season will begin on the weekend of 13-15 August 2021. The top flight will go into the winter break after Matchday 17 on 17-19 December. League games will then resume on 7 January 2022. The 34th and final matchday is scheduled for Saturday, 14 May 2022.

DFB Cup begins on 6 August 2021

The DFB Cup will begin with the first round on the weekend of 6-9 August 2021. The second round will take place on 26-27 October 2021, before the last 16 on 18-19 January 2022 and the quarter-finals on 1-2 March 2022. The two semi-finals will take place on 19 and 20 April 2022. The final in Berlin's Olympiastadion is scheduled for Saturday, 21 May 2022.

Third division begins on 23 July 2021

The dates for the 2021/22 third division season have also been set. The FCB Reserves are currently the title holders but now sit 17th in the table. The third division will begin on the weekend of 23-26 July 2021 next season. After Matchday 20 on 17-20 December 2021, the league will take a winter break until the restart on 14 January 2022. The 38th and final matchday is scheduled for 14 May 2022.
