Robert Lewandowski has thrilled the world of football in 2020 with a host of goals and great technique - and that has now been recognised. The FC Bayern striker was named the ‘Golden Player’ at the Golden Boy Awards staged by the Italian sports journal Tuttosport on Monday. “I’m really pleased to have received the ‘Golden Player Award’. We’ve had a fantastic year with FC Bayern on the pitch and this award is now the reward for all the work we’ve put in,” said the 32-year-old who has scored 41 goals and provided twelve assists this year.
Rummenigge receives Best European Manager award
In addition to Lewandowski, another Munich man was able to enjoy receiving an award at the virtual event. Chairman of the board Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was honoured in the ‘Best European Manager’ category. “This award is a great honour. It reflects the football and economic success story that all of us at FC Bayern have created. The award is not just down to me but instead the whole club with everybody involved. I’d like to say a big thank you to the prestigious Italian journal ‘Tuttosport’ for this award and, particularly in these difficult times, wish the people of Italy a happy and, above all, Christmas. We all hope we will soon be able to cheer at football matches together in the stadiums of the world in 2021,” said the 65-year-old about the award.
Rummenigge made FCB into a world club
Rummenigge has been working in the management at FC Bayern since 1991. After starting as vice-president of the record champions, he became the chairman of the board of FC Bayern München AG when it was founded in 2002 and has been in post since then. Under his leadership, FC Bayern have become the top team in Europe with admirers worldwide and in 2020 won the treble for a second time.
The Italians will have the chance to see Lewandowski and Rummenigge in Italy next February when FCB play Lazio in the Champions League Round of 16:
