Opening of the ‘FC Bayern World’ – a unique project in the footballing world

FC Bayern Munich has officially opened its new ‘FC Bayern World’. President Herbert Hainer, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Executive Board Member Jörg Wacker gave the starting signal today at 12 noon and opened the new FC Bayern highlight in the heart of Munich.

The ‘FC Bayern World’ is a multifunctional building complex covering 3,500 m2 right next to Marienplatz. This unique project on Weinstraße extends over seven floors and includes the FC Bayern Flagship Store, two restaurants and a boutique hotel with 30 rooms. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the opening event was planned on a very small scale and held without partners or media representatives, taking into account the latest measures put into place by Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder.

President Herbert Hainer: “The whole of FC Bayern can be proud of the ‘FC Bayern World’. Our club is at home in Munich and across the world. And precisely that balance between tradition and cosmopolitanism is reflected in this new, unique ‘FC Bayern World’. It blends perfectly into the centre of Munich with its historic façade and therefore represents a successful collaboration between club and city. All FC Bayern members and fans can look forward to visits to the ‘FC Bayern World’, and it’s also not far from the town hall balcony at Marienplatz.”

CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “Our ‘FC Bayern World’ is another milestone in the history of our club. It is also a sign that we are looking ahead in times of a pandemic and optimally positioning ourselves for the future. During the planning phase, we carefully considered a first-class appearance. Alongside the Allianz Arena, our club offices at Säbener Straße and the FC Bayern Campus, the ‘FC Bayern World’ is a new eyecatcher for our club which is a wonderful sight to behold.”

Director Jörg Wacker: “The ‘FC Bayern World’ is unique in the global footballing world and once again shows the pioneering role of FC Bayern Munich. It’s a brand environment that combines our history with the international appeal of our club. Together with our partners, we offer fans and all visitors an innovate shopping and brand experience in a class of its own. With the boutique hotel, our Bavarian restaurant and the international one, we show our connection to our home in Munich and Bavaria and at the same time our cosmopolitanism. The interaction of all the individual elements in the ‘FC Bayern World’ will set new standards in retail business.”

The ‘FC Bayern World’ has a total area of 3,500 m2, of which 1,000 alone covers the FC Bayern Flagship Store that extends over three of the seven floors. On the ground and first floor there are two restaurants, one offering Bavarian and the other international cuisine. The Bavarian-style boutique hotel on the second to fourth floors has a total of 30 rooms, in a nod to all the German championships the club has won. The fifth floor houses an event and meeting location with a prized view directly onto the towers of the Frauenkirche. Partner DO&CO will be responsible for the Bavarian and international restaurants, the boutique hotel, and the whole event location at the ‘FC Bayern World’. The listed company from Vienna already runs the entire hospitality area at the Allianz Arena.

For brand presence in a top location, a specific search was made for a place where FC Bayern could make a visual impact. As with the construction of the Allianz Arena, the club also wanted to make an architectural statement here. As such, they decided on the impressive sgraffito-style façade, which is based on the historic buildings from 1872. Respectful treatment of the architecture and the harmonious integration into the old town was a central thought in the project.
