FC Bayern and RB Leipzig shared the spoils in Saturday evening's intense and thrilling top-of-the-table clash. The 3-3 draw means Munich retain their lead in the Bundesliga title race. "It was a fantastic match for the neutral," commented Manuel Neuer. fcbayern.com has compiled the statements.
Reaction to Bayern v Leipzig
Hansi Flick: "We must be satisfied. It was important that we didn't lose the match. It was a wild game, both teams were not at 100% at the back. We conceded some avoidable goals, our structure wasn't right. It's also down to the many changes we're forced to make at the moment. But we bounced back, we dominated possession. I was pleased when we let the ball do the work and played passes on the floor. But sometimes we played high and long balls without creating anything. The team's mentality is good. We must make sure we retain our position in the table."
Manuel Neuer: "It was a fantastic match for the neutral. We had to fight, we were trailing more than once. At the end of the day we're okay with the point. It was crucial that we didn't let Leipzig win after going behind twice, otherwise the situation in the table would be different. It's not so nice for the goalkeepers to concede three goals each. We've conceded too many goals this season. That's annoying, we must work on that, on turnovers and positional play."
Thomas Müller: "I lost the ball too many times today. Not everything was perfect, but of course you don't score two goals every game. I am happy and satisfied about that aspect, but even I could have done more. We knew before the game that we could come back. The fact that we've often had to come back into games is something we've been aware of for some time now. In the end, we can and must live with this point. Just before the end, I also discussed with Manu [Neuer] whether we wanted to go for it and risk it. It was better not to overdo it. All in all, it's good and important that we remain at the top of the table. There are always setbacks. We have to make sure that we keep on pushing, so that we can leave the field as winners in the next game."
Julian Nagelsmann (RB Leipzig head coach): "It was an exciting game, both teams put a lot into it. You could see we had one day less to recover. In the first half we had some huge chances. After the break Bayern upped the pressure. They are of course very good. We are satisfied though, we'll take a point. The boys have pushed themselves to their limits."
Emil Forsberg (RB Leipzig): "It was a real top match with two teams that were determined to win. We imposed ourselves a lot, imposed what we set out to do, wanted to get behind the backline quickly. It was cool to play, you live for games like that. I was unmarked when I scored. We gave everything and made a good game of it. It's not easy to win at the Allianz Arena. I think we can be satisfied."
