Hansi Flick: I promised my mother three points

Bayern showed great inner strength on Wednesday evening. Against Wolfsburg, the treble winners overturned a one-goal deficit and inflicted a first defeat of the season on VfL. "You could tell that we really wanted to win," Hansi Flick summed up after the deserved 2-1 victory. "In the second half we had a bit more consistency," said Robert Lewandowski, scorer of a brace.

Reaction to Bayern v Wolfsburg

Hansi Flick: "The mentality has to be right and that was the case today. That's why we deserved the win. We played against a team that has very good quality. For the neutral, it was a lively game. After falling behind, we fought back well. The equaliser before the break was an important signal. You could tell that we really wanted to win against Wolfsburg. I promised my mother, it has her birthday today, that we’d get three points today. That's why I'm satisfied. We want to finish a great and very successful 2020 in Leverkusen with another three points if possible."

Manuel Neuer: "We've rarely kept a clean sheet this season and sometimes the little things are missing a bit. Nevertheless, you also have to say that today's goals were sensational."

Robert Lewandowski: "I'm glad I scored twice today and that we took three points. We didn't play perfectly in the first half but we were more consistent in the second half. Wolfsburg played very well today. The last few matches have not been easy. We have one more match, followed by a short break. It's also down to mental strength, so we must give our all again in the last match, no matter how strong Leverkusen are at the moment. We must stick to our game plan and try everything to win the last match. We must be alert from the start and not only after conceding a goal."

Oliver Glasner (VfL Wolfsburg head coach): "I'm very sad we didn't take a point today, we would have deserved it. It was a very good display, a few details were missing. Considering we were up against Bayern, we allowed them relatively few chances and created some ourselves. The lads invested a lot but must go home empty-handed. It's a shame."

Maximilian Philipp (VfL Wolfsburg): "Bayern have the world's best goalkeeper and the world's best player. It's FC Bayern, almost all their players are world-class. We're ruing our missed chances."
