Philipp Lahm leaves the limelight

You can only make out the shadow of his face, but every Bayern fan knows immediately which legend it is. After 517 games in the red jersey of Bayern, Philipp Lahm ended his great career on 20 May 2017. The last Bundesliga match of the 2016/17 season against SC Freiburg was his final appearance as a player at the Allianz Arena.

Farewell league title

Farewell to the club in his heart. After 22 years at FCB, Philipp Lahm called it a day. He was German champion a total of eight times and in 2013 (right picture) he became the first native of Munich since Franz Beckenbauer to lift the league title for FCB as captain.

His time at Säbener Straße was a glorious one and his success was crowned in 2013 with the treble. And how could it be any different for Lahm, of course, that he was to receive the Meisterschale once again as a farewell gift. He won it for the fifth time as captain - only Klaus Augenthaler has done that as many times. Afterwards, he bid an emotional farewell to his home club and the fans and left the limelight. His legacy, however, is one of the most defining in the long club history of FC Bayern.
