After six titles in the space of a year, Bayern’s chests couldn’t be more pumped up – but there is still enough space there for a very special decoration. By winning the FIFA Club World Cup, the Bavarians have earned the right to wear the FIFA badge for the world’s best club team on their kits from now until the staging of the next tournament.
Debut with the badge
The badge for world club champions, which Hansi Flick’s side will wear for Monday evening’s Bundesliga match against Arminia Bielefeld, first appeared on Bayern shirts in January 2014. The first game after winning the 2013 Club World Cup in Morocco saw the Bundesliga leaders take on a Borussia Mönchengladbach team still unbeaten at home. However, FCB appeared boosted by the new embellishment on their chest and conquered Borussia-Park with a 2-0 win. Mario Götze and Thomas Müller got the goals.
Bundesliga record fit for world champions
The momentum continued in the following matches as Germany’s record champions enjoyed a masterful year in the Bundesliga. Bayern got to wear the badge until the end of December, during which time they won 29 out of 35 league games by an aggregate score of 93-19 (four draws, two defeats). With the golden badge in the centre of their chests, Bayern wrote the next chapter in their long successful history. They now want to add another in the coming months.
