Hansi Flick: The team has made history

It's done! FC Bayern clinched their sixth title in a year on Thursday evening, beating Tigres 1-0 in the FIFA Club World Cup final to make history. "Now we have the six-pack, it's a big story," said a beaming Robert Lewandowski, who was also voted Player of the Tournament after the match. Coach Hansi Flick was full of praise for his team: "It's a huge success for the team and a great, outstanding team performance!"

Reaction from the Bayern camp after the win vs. Tigres

Hansi Flick: "Congratulations to my team, they have certainly achieved something historic. Even for a successful club like FC Bayern, it is surely the best season they have ever had. The victory was in no way at risk. We were dominant and deserved to win the final. It is outstanding what the team has achieved: The mentality on the pitch today was just great. At the end, one or two players were certainly at their limits, which is why we made some early substitutions. It's a huge success for the team and a great, outstanding team performance."

Robert Lewandowski: "We just wanted to win. Now we have the six-pack, that's a big story, not only for Bayern Munich, but for all of football. The way we played, that will keep for a long, long time."

Joshua Kimmich: "We fought hard for the title. We got the title for everyone who couldn't be there today. It was a hard piece of work. But I think it was deserved and we walked off the pitch as deserved winners."

Tigres reaction:

Ricardo Ferretti (Tigres coach): "We turned in a good display. Sure, defeats always hurt, but we must admit Bayern were the better team today. Today we lacked something we’d shown in the matches beforehand, especially when we had the ball. Bayern’s pressing game is outstanding. We defended well, but whenever there was a small gap Bayern exploited it. We struggled with stray passing in our build-up play so we didn’t have enough chances. That’s why we lost today."

Carlos Salcedo (Tigres): "That’s football, alas. We leave with our heads held high. I’m exhausted, we were up against strong opponents. We put up a fight. I hope we’ll have another chance to play them some day."

André-Pierre Gignac (Tigres): "We knew we’d take on really strong opponents. We played with passion and invested a lot. We honoured Mexico. I’d like to return and play the final."
