FC Bayern and Robert Lewandowski have been nominated for the 2021 Laureus World Sports Awards. The German record champions are in the category of Laureus World Team of the Year, while Lewandowski in the category of Laureus World Sportsman of the Year.
Rummenigge: It's a great honour
Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: "We won the Laureus World Team of the Year Award back in 2014. It's a great honour, particularly in view of the famous names who are nominated. The team and our coach Hansi Flick have earned this nomination."
Robert Lewandowski: "I've worked hard for many years to achieve what I did in 2020. Now, being nominated for the Laureus Award is something special. Many thanks to the international sports media people who voted for me."
The nomination came from over 1,000 representatives of the media from over 70 countries. In addition to FC Bayern and Lewandowski, other famous athletes and teams including Rafael Nadal, LeBron James, Lewis Hamilton and the Los Angeles Lakers are in the running for the gongs. Overall, there are 42 nominees across seven categories. The Laureus World Sports Academy, which includes sporting legends such as Franz Beckenbauer, Boris Becker and Maria Höfl-Riesch, will select the winners in spring.
