What an outstanding evening for FC Bayern! In Der Klassiker, the Munich team defeated Borussia Dortmund 4-2 at the Allianz Arena. Bayern had been two goals down after just 9 minutes. "After that, the team regained confidence in their qualities minute by minute," described Hansi Flick. "With the equaliser, calmness and dominance came back," the coach continued. FCB once again demonstrated outstanding morale and ultimately very much deserved the win. "It was a great, energetic performance," said Leon Goretzka, scorer of Bayern's third. Hansi Flick: "I look at the positives and how the team came back. We picked ourselves up after we went two goals down, we were more physical then. After that, the team regained confidence in its qualities minute by minute. With the equaliser, calmness and dominance came back. We pressed early and put our opponents under pressure. You have to emphasise the team's morale, mentality and desire to win. In the end, we deserved to win. It was a sensational comeback. Huge compliments to the team."

Thomas Müller: "The quality is there - to have our own identity, that aggression, that spirit, to always believe in ourselves, to be able to turn games around. But it's arduous and it's certainly not part of our match plan. It's not so great to always see us become more spirited only after we fall behind. Dortmund scored from their first two chances. After we pulled one back we sensed we could do something, and the intensity in the one-on-ones was very good. That put Dortmund off kilter. We were in control, even if the goal to make it 3-2 came late. We'll take it, and it was important for us."

Leon Goretzka: "Games against Dortmund are very special for me because of my past. Scoring the decisive goal in the final stages as such, would have only been better if crowds had been here. We leave the pitch as deserved winners. We started the game badly. After going two goals down, we showed that we really wanted to win the game. It was a great, energetic performance, and when we scored the first goal we absolutely believed we could win the game. Dortmund then tended to restrict themselves to just defending. But that the ball went in at some point given our constant pressure is just the way it is. We are overjoyed."

Edin Terzić (Borussia Dortmund head coach): “The start was superb but the ending was very bad. Bayern were on the front foot in between. There was a crucial moment in the 24th minute when we could have scored the third goal, and we could have extended our lead later. Bayern’s pressure was very high then, they whipped in crosses into the box again and again. We can’t always avoid that. We weren’t able to interfere when it came to first touches. We chased them a lot and weren’t able to relieve the pressure. Towards the end it was too much pressure, so we’re leaving empty-handed.”

Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund): “We got off to a good start and scored two goals but were too passive then. We didn’t press them because we dropped too deep. Our play wasn’t vertical enough, we didn’t have enough possession. But it was a tight match for a long time.”

Emre Can (Borussia Dortmund): “Taken altogether we weren’t strong enough today. We got off to a good start but stopped playing then. Bayern did a good job, they’re one of the world’s best teams. Everyone of us must get bolder. We didn’t move well, that’s what was missing today.”
