'Scoretzka' rocket sends Bayern into raptures

Leon Goretzka's opener against RB Leipzig on Saturday evening was met by Thomas Müller's huge roar. The goal proved to be the match-winner, and Bayern extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points. After all, Goretzka had provided an emphatic answer to a question asked by many before the top clash.

Goretzka did not only prove his eye for goal but also worked tirelessly in central midfield.

Who would stand in for top scorer Robert Lewandowski, sidelined with a knee injury? It came as no surprise that the answer was Goretzka. The Germany international is in top form. He has scored three goals in his last four Bundesliga matches. Taken altogether, the 26-year-old has been involved in six goals in the last five league matches.

Which of the nicknames do you like better?

Reason enough for Müller to come up with a new nickname, calling his teammate Scoretzka. The match-winner was amused: "I guess Thomas was bored during the international break. I had to deliver today to prove Mull right." Müller helped him with that.

The native Bavarian expertly dispatched Joshua Kimmich's through-ball, cutting back to Goretzka, who fired into the top corner of the net. "Thomas' assist was really good, and we know Leon's shots. He's scored a few goals from outside the box," Manuel Neuer said, commenting on the crucial goal that sent Müller into raptures. "It's a big step but not yet a decisive one," stressed Goretzka, refusing to get carried away.
